The Biomedical Effects of Laser Application

Mester, E., Mester, A., Mester, A.
Lasers in Surgery and Medicine1985; 5:31-39

This paper briefly reviews the author’s experimental and clinical use of lasers over a 20-year period, during which laser effects on 15 biological systems were studied. Low-energy laser radiation was found to have a stimulating effect on cells, and high-energy radiation had an inhibiting effect. The application of lasers to stimulate wound healing in cases of nonhealing ulcers is recommended.

Conclusions: Our experience with 875 clinical cases, that healed, together with the results of the experiments carried out for the purpose of elucidating the bioregulative process of wound healing, has convinced us to recommend the use of lasers to stimulate wound healing.
